Hey Elkins Apartments Residents! Below are some maintenance tips to get done to the vehicle you’re traveling in and save money on gas.

  • When deciding who is going on your trip take the car that has the best gas mileage but can still be comfortable for the long trip.
  • Get a clean air filter.  This can save you up to 20 cents a gallon.
  • If you get your tires aligned it will help your car not work so hard and save 20 cents per gallon on gasoline.
  • Make sure your tires are all pumped up to the right air pressure and that will save you 6 cents per gallon.
  • Fill your gas tank up near state lines.  Different taxes in each state can have significantly different gas prices. Download a gas app on your phone to find the best gas prices around!
  • Getting your basic tune up before your road trip can save you up to 8 cents per gallon.
  • You can save up to 66 cents per gallon by driving at a constant, slower speed and not jerking your car around with a lot of stopping and going.  That’s a big difference!
  • Don’t drive with the brakes on and you can save up to 70 cents per gallon and your brake pads will last longer.
  • I know it’s hard, especially for you over packers, but the less things you bring the less your car will use in gasoline.  Don’t put so much junk in the trunk.
  • If you pull over at 3am to get your espresso fix from Starbucks turn the engine off at the drive through and you can save more money that sitting in idle.
  • In case of bad weather, make sure your windshield wipers work well and refill your windshield wiper fluid!
